Phillips is at the Met this month for Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, a role she first sang as an undergraduate at Juilliard. “I love being able to explore different kinds of personalities. So often I play the ingénue or the lamenting wife, and it’s just so nice to play somebody who’s kind of a firecracker and throws in a witty line every once in a while—and is also a little bit conniving, which is kind of fun, to be honest.”
